Washing Up The New Year

After Dao was certain that the family she now worked for had departed for their long journey home, the newly hired maid sighed with relief, happy to be alone in the house once again. She looked forward to the long and sunny days ahead where she would wash all the linens and clean up after the Blue Moon New Year. By the time her mistress returned, it would be time for the Chinese Lunar New Year. Dao wondered how many new years a family needed.

  1. Just beautiful! I like some of the colors in this - they look new to your paintings - at least the ones I've seen! Happy New Year!! :) Silke

  3. I used to work restoring antique furniture in these amazing mansions up above the ski resort where I lived. I remember that sense of peace when we'd go in and close the door behind us, knowing that the owners of the house (and all their anxieties and demands) were far away, and that we had a long, peaceful day of working with our hands ahead of us, alone with our tasks and our own quiet thoughts. It was a lovely job, actually.

  4. She tugs at my heart. Your characters's stories stay with you long after you have read them. I am still wondering about the lady who had dreams of being an opera singer and I am forver seeking fleeting joy in your paintings.
